Description: Anyone intimidated by fabric selection? We will discuss the basics of color theory and how those concepts lead to better quilts! Students will leave armed with many tools for choosing colors and ideas for expanding their color palettes. Class will start with a lecture consisting of a full trunk show exploring different aspects of color theory in quilts. Then students will make a dresden color wheel. They will learn all the steps to make a dresden, from fabric selection to cutting to piecing. Multiple types of appliqué will be demonstrated, including blind machine, decorative machine and hand appliqué. Perfect for all level sewists; basic piecing skills required.

I will teach the basics of paper piecing as well as offer some tricks and tips for those with more experience as to how they can further enhance their designs with fabric placement. Different layout options will be discussed as well.

Description: Create a quick and easy Celtic Knotwork tablerunner or small wall hanging. This technique uses no marking or tracing. The knots are created independently and can be appliqued onto a quilt block, a garment or even a tote bag using hand or machine applique. Linda also demonstrates how to make your own fusible bias tape using pre-packaged bias or the bias tape maker. She will also demonstrate how to hand or machine applique your knots to the chosen background.

Moving on to Dimensional Thread Painting - using zig zag and straight stitching. See the fabric come to life as you sew and layer the threads on top of your design; adding shading, highlighting, texture and definition. Description: The traditional Baby Blocks pattern uses 60 degree diamonds and is stitched using a y-seam. My Baby Blocks technique takes out that y-seam altogether! All straight seam sewing will make you look at this pattern in a new light. We work some magic with those light background pieces and you will be delightfully surprised at how easy and quick this quilt goes together. Please bring your strips pre-cut (both the background fabric and your fabrics for the colored diamonds). DO NOT attempt to cut your diamonds (as shown here below). We do all that in class. Description: This quilting style was originally inspired by the Bargello embroidery stitch, also called flame stitch, and it is easy to see why!
The class offers a choice of three designs and, although it looks complicated, is suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced. There will be lots of hints and tips to make construction easier.
By the end of the workshop, you will not only be on the way to creating a gorgeous quilt, you will also understand how variations and more complex designs are created. You should also be able to design Bargello patterns for yourself.
