Description: Why would anyone stitch fabric onto paper? The benefit is that the paper keeps the fabric from stretching creating precise piecing, consistently sized blocks, and sharp points. Foundation paper piecing also allows for the creation of shapes that would be difficult to make using traditional piecing methods. In this class, you’ll make beautiful hexagon blocks while I take you step by step through the technique and show you how to use the tools that make it easier. Choose your favorite from the three pattern options: Striped Hexi’s, Equilateral Gone Awry, and Nuts About You. This class is best suited for open minded quilters of all skill levels who are ready to add a new technique to their tool belt. No previous experience with foundation paper piecing is needed. Bonus: We will explore block design and I'll show you a trick to make Y seams easy.

Description: Starting with your own sharp photo of a pet, flower, or landscape, learn how to make a pattern for your own unique pieced picture quilt. Students will be asked to send me their proposed photo to be two weeks ahead of time for approval and possible editing.
Through discussion of each student’s project, we’ll touch on perspective, level of detail needed to communicate an image, use of straight-line vs curved piecing, what to include in the pattern and what can be added later through fabric selection, or with quilting, embroidery, pens, or paint.
At the end of the day, we will discuss how to use the pattern to make a quilt.
NB: This one-day class is design-only. You will not need a sewing machine, fabric, or sewing supplies. However, if there is specific fabric you are considering for your project and would like the instructor’s advice, please bring it!

Description: Learn how to create the illusion of weaving your fabric together without any 'Y' seaming. This technique is a great tool to achieve what appears to be difficult piecing, simply done. We will cover other block patterns which uses this same method. In class we are making a lap size quilt and also make a bonus pillow to insure you understand the instructions from start to finish!
